Moran Barkai, a friend and fellow Media Culture alumni at Maastricht University has written a book that delves into social media’s role in the political upheavals that have swept the Middle East and North Africa.“Analysing specific cases of social media use in recent events, Revolution: Share explores social media’s potential in opposing repressive regimes, but also how this potential is limited or even nullified by some of the media’s own characteristics, its use by non-democratic actors, and the very nature of democratic processes.”
Published on behalf of the European Journalism Centre (EJC), the e-book version is available for free in exchange for a tweet or a Facebook post (you will likely post and share it anyway because it is a good book). For those who prefer a printed copy, a paper version can be purchased.
